In the big cities, the local population understands English and in tourists’ places like the Bali Island, almost every Indonesian can speak English.
A state language of Indonesia is Indonesian or Bahasa Indonesia. Besides the state language, each province has own language in which the local population communicates. There are more than seven hundred different languages and dialects in Indonesia. By quantity of languages in one country, Indonesia gives way only to Papua and New Guinea, where people speak more than 800 languages.
